From being told she would never be good enough, to earning her pointe shoes!
Jenna always loved to dance! Ballet was her childhood dream however; she was told that she was good enough. Her younger sister was talented and therefore, no one noticed her.
One day, Jenna's dance teacher suggested that she should quit ballet, which hurt and took a toll on her self-esteem.
Before:
As an adult Jenna missed ballet and tried other ballet
classes in the city. She found that all the beginner ballet classes at other studios were not geared towards actual beginners. Everyone was above her level, and she felt discouraged.
Being a mandarin teacher, she knew that she just needed to find the right place. That is when she decided to try The Ballet Lounge. Jenna felt nervous when she first enrolled but after her first class, she was ecstatic! She finally found what she was looking for – the perfect place for her!
After:
After many months of hard work dancing at the Ballet Lounge, she has earned her pointe shoes, and has increased her flexibility dramatically. Not only has she has achieved her goals, but she has also overcome her challenges with confidence.
What Jenna likes best about working with Ballet Lounge is that everyone treats everyone equally. All the instructors share the same message of self-love. They are friendly, encouraging and pay equal attention to all students.
Even the students are encouraging - which is such a refreshing environment when everyone is cheering for each other, versus being competitive.

When Katharina finished university, she wanted to take better care of herself. She would sometimes go hiking and climbing with her partner, however, she didn't have a regular fitness routine. Katharina tried yoga, belly dancing and Salsa but - nothing stuck, and the gym was never her thing.

For years, Katharina kept a bag with the picture of a ballerina on it, and she loved looking at it because dance always fascinated her. One day, her colleague highly recommended Suzy's Ballet Fit® classes. She tried one class and was instantly hooked!
After:
Many years later, Katharina is still a BL Member. She danced with us through the pandemic (virtually) as well as during/after her pregnancy. Her posture and balance have vastly improved. She looks & feels stronger, confident, and happy!
Katharina’s biggest obstacle was her mindset, thinking that she would not have enough time or energy to dance. The BL Dance Challenges motivate her to keep exercising regularly and help her develop a new routine! She is able explore a variety class and she quickly realized that she can make it work with her busy schedule. Plus, she noticed that she feels better and has more energy after dancing! Dance makes her truly happy (and her partner can test to that).
Katharina loves the Ballet Lounge! The Instructors are welcoming, encouraging, and approachable. Everyone genuinely cares about you, and they want you to have the best experience – starting from the moment you walk through the doors.

When Leif originally signed up, he wanted to learn how to
connect with music. He thought that ballet would be an amazing lower body workout (little did he know, it is a TOTAL body workout!!).
Leif was doing calisthenics and has always been attracted to fitness with no equipment. He found that dance, music, and exercise were very therapeutic for him. Especially after a long day at work when he wanted to get out of his head and into his body.
Before:
Leif always wanted to try dance however he was too shy to do so without liquid courage. In the past he had the fear of looking silly or weird and was nervous of attending a studio where he wouldn’t feel a connection to anyone.
Leif would regularly walk past the Ballet Lounge and see
people having fun dancing at the barre. One day, a friend asked why he hadn’t tried dancing yet? He realized that he didn’t have an excuse. He then decided to jump in bravely with both feet!
After:
Leif’s first goal was to have the courage to “put on a pair
of ballet slippers, wear tights in public in front of a large window facing Granville Street, and not giving a f**k what anybody thought!”
He overcame challenges such as the fear of being vulnerable, especially dancing in front of others. Leif conquered them with patience and by surrounding himself with lots of amazing and supportive people inside the Ballet Lounge Community.
Leif feels very at ease and welcome in a feminine space which was a barrier for him in the beginning. He is especially grateful for the opportunity to perform in two BL Recitals for his family and friends! After learning Ballet, Leif now has the confidence to try anything new!
