We are not your typical ballet studio. We promote conversations and laughs between exercises, and you are encouraged to wear whatever you feel  comfortable in. Everyone is welcome in our dance community. We are supportive and we do not judge each other – we just wanna dance, get fit and listen to good music!

Suzy Kaitman

Creator and Founder, Suzy  has an extensive background in professional ballet training from the School of Alberta Ballet and the University of Calgary’s BA (Ballet) Dance Program. She is a certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor who has a passion for movement, music and helping others live healthy & active lifestyles. She has over 15 years experience teaching ballet and fitness to a wide range of clients varying in age, abilities, injuries and goals. Suzy’s high energy and positive attitude is contagious and her warm and supportive approach makes clients feel comfortable to overcome challenges.

Suzy’s vision is to revolutionize the adult dance/fitness experience by creating a unique, safe and fun environment, as well as provide high quality instruction that is accessible to anyone.


Kathryn Carlberg

Kathryn Carlberg began dancing at the age of 5. She studied dance at The School for Contemporary Arts, Simon Fraser University, British Columbia, Canada. Kathryn continues to work as a dance artist in Vancouver, BC. She performs throughout the province in festivals and showcases such as Tremors Festival, A Dime a Dozen, 12 Minutes Max, Bloom, Project CPR, Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremonies and Judith Garay’s company Dancers Dancing. Kathryn holds her Certificate in Ballet Teaching from the Royal Academy of Dance and recipient of the 2013 Dorothy Cox-Scruton Bursary. Kathryn is passionate about world dance, she studied West African dance in Ghana, contemporary dance in Germany, and learns Flamenco from Rosario Ancer here in Vancouver, BC.

Kristina Roper

Kristina Roper was born in Vancouver where she trained at the Richmond Academy of Dance. She has also trained with numerous schools such as Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Washington Ballet, Boston Ballet and Alonzo King Ballet. She continued her training at the University of Arizona graduating with her BFA in Dance, summa cum laude, before joining Ballet Spartanburg as a Company dancer in 2013. She has experience teaching ballet, jazz, contemporary, modern and body conditioning as well as teaching at an outreach program at elementary schools. Kristina is an Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance having completed all their vocational exams in ballet. Kristina is also a Certified Pilates Mat Instructor and Yoga Instructor. Prior to joining Ballet Spartanburg, Kristina performed with Artifact Dance Project, touring China with their Great American Dance Tour and also performed with the Arizona Theater Company. She has just moved back to Canada and is very excited to be part of this new adventure with Ballet Lounge.

Annie Rios

Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela and with more than 20 years in the dance world, Anneliese (Annie) Ríos is a professional ballet dancer. Annie started her ballet studies at the age of four under the tutelage of Nina Novak, Ruta Butviliene and Rumen Ivanov Rashev. Based on a combination of Cecchetti, Russian and Vaganova technique, Annie graduated from a Professional Ballet dancer at the age of sixteen at Nina Novak’s Classical Ballet Academy. After her graduation Annie joined her hometown ballet company Teresa Carreño Ballet where she had the chance to performed nationally and internationally. During her professional career she danced as Corps de Ballet and Soloist in various famous ballets as The Nutcracker, Giselle, Paquita, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Les Sylphides, among other contemporary and modern choreographies. In 2013 Annie started combining her dancing with ballet teaching at her academy of origin where she had the chance to work with children and teenagers. In mid 2014 Annie moved to BC, Canada where she has been maintaining her training as a ballet dancer while in the search of new opportunities where she can grow as an artist, share her passion for dance and improve her skills as a ballet teacher.

Rebecca Wong Him Yung

Nine years ago, what started off as moral support for a friend lead to regular yoga practice. Armed with a degree in architectural science, I knew the importance of structural integrity, but my impatience and 15 year competitive ballet background drove me to strive for a posture that simply looked good in a mirror. By using natural flexibility as a crutch, not only did I compromise my practice but I invited and provoked injury. When injuries reoccured, and there were more than a few, I was unable to be content with a modified practice and self-prescribed more yoga. A long power struggle finally came to a head when I commenced my 200hr YA yoga teacher training journey at Karma Teachers.
Learning the scientific beauty behind the form and function of the asana and that practicing compassion to others can only be achieved if you are truly kind to yourself first, Karma Teachers stripped away years of armour revealing a goofy and creative vulnerability – taking yourself so seriously all the time was no fun at all.
My classes are a tell tale sign of my love for the performing arts, part improv comedy, classical ballet, circus antics and slam-dunk competition. I focus my physical practice on establishing a foundation and letting my movements be dictated by breath. Reflecting on the fact that even in stillness your breath moves your body, why not allow your breath to flow through all of your movements; seduce your body, don’t force it.

Johanna Ward

A true-believer that exercise can and should be FUN, Johanna Ward has been teaching some form of danceFIT for almost 20 years. Smart, sexy, sassy, strong… and SWEATY… this describes the class and how you feel during it!

Certified in group fitness, personal training, yoga, and barre, Johanna is a regular fitness contributor to CTV Morning Live Vancouver, a CanFitPro presenter, and was shortlisted for CFP’s national Fitness Specialist of the Year Award in 2015. She was nominated for a YWCA Women of Distinction Award for Health & Fitness in 2013 and has been featured as a fitness expert on CBC’s “Our Vancouver”, Shaw TV’s “The Rush” and in BC Living Magazine, where danceFIT was named one of Vancouver’s top fall fitness classes.

Natalie Neid

I live each day to the very fullest, laughing, loving and dancing the whole way through! I am an artist of many trades; makeup, dance, song and of course fitness. When you get in my class you don’t just sweat, you sparkle! I have been dancing professionally for over 20 years and have experience in many different genres of the trade. Dance has taken me all over Canada and America, allowing me to be trained by the top choreographers of our time. Over the past two years I have joined my love of dance and music with my love of fitness. I am Group Fitness certified and love to create a class atmosphere like its the early 90’s Electric Circus Dance Floor. A class with high energy, rad music and that feeling you get after an amazing work out! Remember if it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.

Taylor Dolan

Taylor Dolan is a Vancouver-born dancer, performer, choreographer, adjudicator, and instructor. Raised in White Rock, Taylor began dancing as a toddler, training with Spiral Dance Co. Her professional career started at the age of twelve, where she danced for Disney, Nickelodeon and Royal Caribbean Cruises.

After graduating high school Taylor continued to pursue her passion for dance, joining the ballet-contemporary company Lamondance in 2010 under the artistic direction of Lara Barclay and Monica Proenca. At the age of seventeen Taylor was asked to debut her first choreographic work at the Vancouver Global Dance Project. That same year she danced in music videos for various recording artists such as K-OS, Keisha Chante and Sean Desmond. The following year she began her first adjudicating tour across Canada, and has since adjudicated in Canada, the US and internationally.

In 2012 Taylor moved to London UK where she danced with The Greenwich Contemporary Dance Company, and trained musical theatre performers for their West End debuts such as The Lion King, Annie and Miss Saigon. Some of her other European credits include performing at the Much Music Video Awards in Amsterdam, the Tanzart Festival in Germany, and guest teacher and adjudicator at Danza In Fiera in Florence, Italy. After two illuminating years of performing and teaching abroad, Taylor has returned to Vancouver. She is currently enjoying her first season back, teaching and choreographing at Dance Trance Inc. She has recently concluded working with The Response Dance Society under the artistic direction of Amber Funk Barton, and was last season’s (2015) Stage II & III BC Provincial Adjudicator. For Taylor, every aspect of contributing to the dance community is her passion and privilege, and she continues to focus on the creative elements of dance.

Alissa Perry

Alissa is very excited to join the Ballet Lounge family!  A dancer since the age of 10, Alissa trained with a variety of prestigious schools in her hometown of Calgary, Alberta; One Step Ahead Dance Studio, the School of Alberta Ballet, Ambition Performing Arts, and the McDonald-Wilson Dance Academy. She loves all styles of dance. Her training has focused mainly on ballet, lyrical, jazz, and modern.

With teaching experience spanning 9 years, Alissa has a passion for making movement accessible to every level of dancer. Her teaching experience includes the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus as well as Brian Foley’s ADAPT syllabus, competitive and non-competitive choreography, and exam preparation.

Alissa can’t wait to share her love of fitness, music, and movement with you. She wants to help you reach your goals… Ballet Fit style!

Caroline MacGillivray

At the tender age of three, Caroline began the journey of exploring movement, breath work and dance.  After fifteen years of ballet, her life revolved around singing, dancing and acting.  Through Aradia Fitness, Caroline was one of Canada’s first pole dance for fitness instructors. When she became their instructor trainer on the West Coast, she developed classes, training and certified instructors. One of the classes she created for Aradia was Ballet abs, buns and thighs. She has taught barre and ballet body classes at UBC Recreation, Hollyburn Country Club, and SFU Recreation.


Currently Caroline is working on becoming a Master in Medical Qigong and reiki certification.  She was thrilled to be the recipient of full scholarships for medical qi gong practitioner, 200hr yoga teacher training, pre and post natal yoga training and yin teacher training.

Caroline teaches barre, meditation, ballet body, aerial yoga, vinyasa, hatha, yin, chair, kids classes throughout Metro Vancouver.   A yoga teacher, dance instructor, gi gong therapist, writer, and speaker are selected activities she is known for.   Caroline is best known as the founder of Beauty Night Society, an award-winning registered Canadian charity.


Gustavo Ferman

Professional Dance Instructor, Choreographer, Dance motivator Entertainer/Performer with over 20+ years of extensive background in Dance from Jazz, to Hip-Hop, Funk, Ballroom and Latin, to many Dance Productions and Musical Theater. He is the creator of Latin Funk Dance®, a popular fun,
high energy dance program he brought to Vancouver in 96, becoming the first
and the most popular Latin Fusion dance program in the city. And recently
Gustavo has created a new exciting dance program called” Groovazon” a Funky
groove Jazzy dance style.
Gustavo was one the Dancers featured in the 2010 Olympic opening
ceremonies and has appeared in numerous television/radio
shows, newspaper/magazine articles, has done his own TV dance show in
Canada and Europe, created an instructional Latin Funk DVD & performance
group called The Corazon Dancers. He also has created his own “Team Building
Dance Workshops and Motivational dance Presentations for the corporate world.
Gustavo’s training began in San Francisco California at the City College arts
program and then to Calgary, Alberta with the Young Canadians school of
Performing arts, after finishing the program he worked with many different
Dance/Entertainment Companies in the city as a Performer, teacher and
eventually a Dance Choreographer and Director

Laura Furtado

Laura Furtado, recently moved from Toronto, is a international Dancer, Instructor, Choreographer & Presenter. She danced professionally for 15 years across North America and Europe, being certified in various styles and disciplines. She has instructed thousands of women and teachers in various forms over 20 years, with her specialty being sexy jazz. She has also produced dance shows/productions and ran a dance entertainment agency for over 10 years. She is the Founder/Owner of two successful women-based communities that are franchised in 20 Canadian/USA cities, DivaGirl and Sexy & Wealthy in Heels. She also runs a non-profit, Divas Abroad, that educates and empowers women internationally.

Nathaniel Gosselin

Nathaniel Gosselin has been working as a profesional dancer for almost 10 years. Starting out with cruise ships and building his resume to include work with multiple different pop singers, commercials, club performances, concerts and now settling into the world of film and television here in Vancouver. What started as a way to disconnect from the dramas of teenage life slowly transformed into a flourishing career that carried Gosselin all over the world. As someone who is always striving for more he didn’t stop with just dance. Currently, Gosselin works as a dancer, aerialist, model, instructor, fitness professional, and wellness coach.
